Bird Hunting | Kwa Motlhose | North West

Kwa Motlhose is located in the North West Province, and offers Bird Hunting Safaris on a large number of game bird in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana. Combination hunts are very popular, where wing shooting is combined with plains or dangerous game hunts. All game birds carry a legally prescribed daily bag limit, except for pigeons and doves.

Game Bird Hunting:

Waterfowl:
Two main geese species available – the Spurwing, quite a large bird, and the Egyptian geese.
Ducks  – the Yellow Bill duck, the little Red Bill teal, and White faced Duck.
Upland Terrestrial Birds:
The Helmeted Guinea fowl is the most widespread, and biggest in numbers and size, and offers challenging shoots.
Francolin species – Swainson’s spurfowl, Greywing and Orange River.
Common African quail – not frequently encountered.
Doves & Pigeons:
Four species – Rock pigeon, Red-eye Dove, Cape turtle dove, small Laughing or Palm dove.
Sand Grouse:
Main species is Namaqua- and Burchells sandgrouse, found in South Africa, Namibia and Botswana.

Adam Clements Safari Trackers Inc offers excellent Bird Hunting Safaris on numerous concession areas in the Free State, Northern Cape, Northwest and KwaZulu-Natal Provinces. These areas offer an abundance of more than 16 species of totally wild and indigenous game birds. The wing shooting season is from 1 May to 31 August for most game birds and waterfowl. Dove and pigeons can be hunted year round but the best time for hunting them is from the end of February to the end of June. Bird Hunting Safaris can also be combined with a trophy and / or tailor-made Safari.

Bird hunting species include Grey-wing Partridge, Orange River Partridge, Swenson’s Francolin, Common Quail, Namaqua Sandgrouse, Burchell’s Sandgrouse, Rock Pigeon, Feral Pigeon, Red-eyed Dove, Cape Turtle Dove, Laughing Dove, Egyptian Goose, South African Shelduck, Yellow-billed Duck, Red-billed Teal, Spur-winged Goose.

Hunting methods:

Upland Game Birds – walked-up shoots, driven shoots and flighted shoots.
Waterfowl – hunted over decoys restricted to early morning and late afternoon.
